Perang Gerilya merupakan terjemahan dari bahasa Spanyol: guerrilla yang secara harafiah berarti perang kecil.

Gerilya adalah salah satu strategi perang yang dikenal luas, karena banyak digunakan, selama perang kemerdekaan di Indonesia pada periode 1950-an.

A.H. Nasution yang pernah menjabat pucuk panglima Tentara Nasional Indonesia-Angkatan Darat (TNI-AD) menuliskan di buku "Pokok-pokok Gerilya". Bagi tentara perang gerilya sangatlah efektif. Mereka dapat mengelabui,menipu atau bahakan melakukan serangan kilat. Taktik ini juga manjur saat menyerang musuh jumlah besar yang kehilangan arah dan tidak menguasai medan. kadang taktik ini juga mengarah pada taktik mengepung secara tidak terlihat (invisible).

Sampai sekarang taktik ini masih dipakai teroris untuk sembunyi. Jika mereka menguasai medan mereka dapat melakukan : penahanan sandera, berlatih, pembunuhan hingga menjadi mata-mata. Dan musuh dapat melakukan nomaden, yaitu berpindah- pindah.
